According to Polimer News, farmers in the Nannilam region of Tiruvarur district are facing significant losses after heavy evening rains over the past two days submerged standing paddy crops. The damage is reported to be particularly severe in areas including Thirukandeeswaram, Sannanallur, Andipanthal, and Panangudi, where Kuruvai crops were nearing the harvest stage.

Farmers have expressed deep concern as the waterlogging has caused the ready-to-harvest crops to collapse in the fields. The agricultural community notes that this loss comes after a difficult season marked by challenges such as electricity shortages and extreme heat caused by El Niño-related climate shifts. Many farmers had invested between 25,000 and 30,000 rupees per acre to bring their crops to maturity.

The unexpected rainfall has disrupted the harvest schedule, leaving farmers in the region facing potential financial hardship.
