These rituals, which involve the use of traditional drums and the chanting of folk hymns, are deeply rooted in the cultural history of the region. Villagers believe that these prayers serve to appease the rain deity during times of drought. The report notes that the current anxiety among the farming community is exacerbated by concerns over El Niño, which has been linked to erratic weather patterns and insufficient rainfall in the district.

While the practice is primarily a cultural and spiritual response to environmental challenges, it highlights the ongoing vulnerability of local agriculture to climate variability. Farmers in the region continue to wait for significant rainfall before the end of July to support their sowing season.
