According to a report from Dina Thanthi, T. Velmurugan, the leader of the Tamizhaga Valvurimai Katchi (TVK) and a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, has issued a strong public warning to the central government regarding the potential reduction of state representation in the Indian Parliament. Velmurugan expressed concerns that any move to alter the current framework of representation could negatively impact the political voice of southern states.

The statement comes amidst ongoing national discussions regarding the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies. Velmurugan urged the central administration to maintain the existing balance of power, arguing that states which have effectively implemented population control and development policies should not be penalized through a reduction in their legislative influence.

Velmurugan's remarks highlight a growing sentiment among several southern Indian political leaders who fear that the upcoming delimitation exercise, based on population metrics, may disproportionately favor northern states at the expense of the south. The TVK leader has called for a transparent dialogue and has signaled that his party will continue to advocate for the protection of state-level representation in the federal structure.
