According to Kanak News, the state of Odisha is facing a significant flood crisis as rising water levels in the Mahanadi river system have inundated parts of the Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Puri districts. The report indicates that the situation has been exacerbated by the release of water from the Hirakud Dam, with local authorities managing the discharge through multiple sluice gates to mitigate pressure on the reservoir.

The flooding has reportedly left hundreds of villages waterlogged, disrupting the lives of thousands of residents. Local administration teams have been deployed to conduct rescue and relief operations, though access remains challenging in several remote areas where roads have been submerged by the overflowing Mahanadi, Kathajodi, Kuakhai, Kushabhadra, Bhargavi, Devi, Daya, Chitrotpala, and Luna rivers.

In the Cuttack district, areas including Banki, Tigiria, and Athagarh have been particularly affected, with reports of floodwaters breaching local infrastructure and rendering key transport routes impassable. The state government is currently prioritizing the evacuation of residents from low-lying areas to temporary shelters as the flood wave moves toward the lower delta regions. Officials continue to monitor water levels at the Munduli barrage, which serves as a critical point for assessing the volume of water flowing toward the coastal districts.
