Odisha Cabinet approves Rs 389 crore to revive 680 Minor Irrigation Projects

The Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has officially approved the third phase of the ‘Improvement to Tanks & MIPs’ scheme. This initiative is designed to bolster the state’s minor irrigation infrastructure and restore the irrigation potential of 680 projects across the region.

According to the announcement, the project will be rolled out over a four-year period, spanning from the 2026-27 fiscal year through 2029-30. The government has allocated a total financial outlay of Rs 389 crore to support these upgrades. Officials stated that the primary objective of this investment is to restore irrigation access to approximately 15,700 hectares of farmland, providing more reliable water sources for local agricultural communities.

This move is part of a broader effort by the state government to strengthen rural infrastructure and support farmers by ensuring consistent water supply for crops. By focusing on the renovation of existing minor irrigation projects, the state aims to maximize the utility of current water management systems.
