According to a report by Vijayavani, representatives from the Mysugar Sugarcane Farmers' Union have submitted a formal request to Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, seeking an extension for the Fasal Bima Yojana insurance scheme payment deadline. The delegation met with the minister at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bhavan in Mandya to advocate for an extension until September 10.

The union members highlighted the severe agricultural challenges currently facing the region, noting that Mandya is among the 101 taluks in Karnataka officially designated as drought-affected. Farmers reported that only 14 percent of the district's land has been sown this season, as the lack of rainfall and insufficient release of Cauvery river water have hindered seasonal preparations. With the month of August drawing to a close, many farmers have been unable to complete their planting cycles, leaving significant portions of land fallow.

The union expressed concern that the current deadline for the Fasal Bima Yojana has already passed, leaving many farming families without the necessary financial safety net during this period of extreme climate stress. By bringing these concerns to the attention of the central government, the union hopes to secure a policy adjustment that would allow affected farmers to enroll in the scheme despite the delays caused by the ongoing drought conditions.
