According to 10TV, the Hyderabad City Police have issued a formal warning to the public regarding a rising trend of 'Rent Boyfriend' scams circulating on social media platforms. Authorities are urging citizens, particularly young women, to exercise extreme caution when encountering online advertisements or profiles offering such services, as these are increasingly being used as fronts for cyber extortion and financial fraud.

Police officials, including Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand, have highlighted that these scams often begin with seemingly harmless social media interactions. Once a user engages with the service, perpetrators reportedly use the information gathered to blackmail victims, threatening to leak private conversations or photos unless large sums of money are paid. The police emphasize that these operations are part of a broader network of digital crimes targeting individuals through deceptive service offerings.

Law enforcement agencies are currently monitoring social media channels to identify and dismantle these fraudulent networks. Officials have advised the public not to share personal information or financial details with unknown individuals met online. Victims of such scams are encouraged to report the incidents immediately to the national cybercrime helpline or the local police portal to assist in ongoing investigations and to prevent further victimization.
