Sub-registrar, two document writers arrested for accepting ₹15,000 bribe

According to a report from The Hindu, a sub-registrar and two document writers have been arrested in Tiruvallur following an investigation into bribery allegations. The operation was conducted by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) after a local resident, identified as Natarajan, filed a formal complaint regarding a demand for illegal gratification.

Natarajan reportedly approached the DVAC’s Tiruvallur detachment after being pressured to pay a bribe to facilitate official documentation. Following the complaint, authorities set up a trap to apprehend the individuals involved in the transaction. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the state’s anti-corruption wing to curb malpractices within local registration offices, which are frequently cited as points of friction for citizens seeking property-related services.

The accused individuals are currently in custody as the investigation continues. Such operations are part of a broader mandate by the DVAC to target corruption in public-facing government departments. Further legal proceedings are expected as the agency compiles evidence for the prosecution.
