Over 500 members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged a protest in Dhemaji on Wednesday to demand a permanent resolution to the long-standing border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Demonstrators gathered near the Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner's office, carrying banners and placards while chanting slogans against the government's handling of the border situation.

The protesters presented a list of demands, primarily focusing on the security and development of border regions. AASU representatives called for the immediate clearance of areas they allege have been encroached upon by individuals from Arunachal Pradesh. Furthermore, the union demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for an incident in the Mingmang Badati region, where 11 Assamese individuals were reportedly injured in a shooting.

Beyond security concerns, the union's demands included improved infrastructure for border villages, specifically requesting better road connectivity, electricity, and access to clean drinking water. The protesters also urged the government to deploy additional security forces to ensure the safety of residents living in these sensitive border areas. The demonstration highlights the persistent friction in the region, as local groups continue to pressure authorities for more decisive action on boundary management and civilian protection.
